Kingfishers are small, brightly coloured birds. They are known for their "dhrill" calls, long, pointed bills and their ability to dive into the water to catch fish. Kingfishers are adapted to see underwater and can swallow fish in flight. They are often perched on branches over water and are found near rivers, ponds and lakes.
