Hoopoe
Upupa Epops
The hoopoe is a medium-sized, cinnamon coloured bird. It is known for its "crown" of feathers and erratic, butterfly-like flight. Hoopoe’s name comes from its "oop-oop-oop" call. Its long, thin bill is adapted for probing into the ground and bark to find food. Hoopoe nests in tree or wall cavities and can be found across Europe, Asia and Africa.
